Housing body buys 49-unit Finglas estate

An approved  housing body has bought an entire housing estate in Finglas it emerged last week.

Thuath Housing, which provides housing to those on the council’s housing waiting list, purchased the entire 49 unit housing estate on Farnham Drive between Erin’s Isle and Einn Eber Fort.

The estate, known as An Riasc, was originally intended for a mix of public and private housing.

Local councillors learned of the sale last week and are due to be briefed this week by council officials at an area committee meeting.

“It appears this purchase was done in consultation with city council officials but not councillors,” said Cllr Paul McAuliffe.

“While I welcome much needed social housing, I am alarmed that the council seem to be breeching the basic principle of a social mix in this estate.

“Nobody is opposed to increasing the supply of social housing and in order for new projects to receive community support they must be based on the hard earned lesson that communities must be of mixed tenure with a positive social mix.

“I am opposed to poor planning decisions being made in the midst of a housing crisis, we will merely be repeating the mistakes of the past.”

An Riasc is a new build estate made up of mainly three and four bedroom three storey terraced houses.
