Jobs boost for Dublin West

NEW figures from the Central Statistics Office show a  double-digit unemployment drop for the general Blanchardstown area.

There were 6,230 people on the local Live Register last month, a fall of 11 per cent since October 2014. In the Navan Road area, the Live Register was down by or 649, or 11.7 per cent.

Both areas saw a bigger fall in unemployment than the national average of 10.5 per cent. 

Tánaiste and Labour TD for Dublin West, Joan Burton, welcomed publication of the CSO figures.

This is hugely significant progress, and it’s further proof that Dublin West is ahead of the national average when it comes to reducing unemployment and getting people back to work,” she said.

“Each person who moves from the Live Register into work is more than just a statistic; it’s an individual with more opportunities and a family made better off.”

Publication of the CSO figures coincide with the announcement of a Careers Day being organised by Dublin 15 based biologics company Bristol Myers Squibb, to fill some of the 400 vacancies coming on stream at its new plant in Cruiserath.

The jobs include engineering and scientist roles. Interested applicants are being invited to go along to the Careers Day where they can meet current staff and find out more about the jobs available.

“Bristol Myers Squibb will be a major employer in Dublin 15, and it’s great to see them reach out to jobseekers and interested candidates in this way,” the Tánaiste said.

“The company is making a major investment in a new facility, assisted by the IDA, so it’s certainly good news for Dublin West.”

The Bristol Myers Squibb Career Day will be hosted at the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT) on Foster Avenue, Mount Merrion, on Saturday, November 21, from 11am-3pm.
