FINGLAS based dog welfare charity, Dogs Trust, has taken in 17 vulnerable and frightened terrier dogs rescued from an animal hoarder in Louth earlier this month.

The local charity revealed that it helped officials from Louth County Council to rescue the dogs who are now being cared for at the Dogs Trust centre just off the M50.

The 13 adult dogs and four pups are receiving veterinary and behavioural care from the Dogs Trust team. A number of the rescued dogs were pregnant and one frightened female has since delivered a litter at the Dogs Trust dedicated puppy wing facility.

“Unfortunately they are in a very distressed way following the horrific living conditions they were subjected to before the discovery,” said Operations Manager at Dogs Trust, Catriona Birt.

“These dogs are probably some of the most frightened we have ever taken in here at our Rehoming Centre.

“They are huddled together in the corner of their kennels and completely terrified of any positive human interaction.

“It’s going to take quite some time and expert care to build their confidence and trust before rehoming them to loving new homes.”

Dogs Trust say the rescue is similar to many it encounters every year and that these dogs are typical of a hoarding case.
