Local GAA club gets set for annual charity blitz in aid of St Francis Hospice

St Colmcille’s Gaelic for Mothers & Others will host a special afternoon of GAA, fundraising and entertainment in support of St Francis Hospice.

The whole club is ready to welcome players, families, friends and the wider community for its annual charity blitz in aid of St Francis Hospice on this Saturday, September 19.

The club has been holding the popular fundraising event almost every year since 2016 in honour of two of the players’ mothers who passed away and spent some time in St. Francis Hospice.

This year’s blitz will run from 2pm to 5.30pm, with ten teams taking part in an afternoon of matches at their grounds in Hollybank’s, Swords.

Once the action on the pitch finishes, players and supporters will come together in the club hall for refreshments, a raffle, before the real fun which continues into the evening.

From 8pm, the band Charityoke will take to the stage in the club lounge.

The band performs free of charge at events with the aim of helping communities raise as much money as possible for their chosen charity.

A further raffle will also take place during the evening, with all funds raised supporting St Francis Hospice.

Marian O Neill, Club Secretary, St. Colmcille’s, said: “Over the years, this blitz has become a really special event for our club.

“It brings people together for a great afternoon of football and plenty of fun, but most importantly it gives us an opportunity to support the incredible work of St Francis Hospice.”

“We have raised thousands of euros for the hospice since we first started holding the blitz, and that is entirely down to the generosity of our players, families, friends and the wider community.”

“We’d love to see as many people as possible coming down to support us again this year.

“Whether you join us for the matches during the afternoon or come along for the music and craic in the evening, everyone is very welcome.”

The event is open to supporters and members of the local community, with people encouraged to come along throughout the afternoon and evening and help the club raise as much as possible for St Francis Hospice.
