Orla Comerford doubled down on her T13 100m success to win her second gold medal at the 2025 Para Athletics World Championships in New Delhi.

The Raheny sprinter once again edged out Brazilian sprinter Da Silva, who broke the world record in both the 100m and 200m this year to claim the top spot.

Speaking after the race Comerford said: “The goal for me here was to try and win that 100 for me the 200 was the cherry on top.

“After Monday night I was just like it’s there, I feel good I feel strong and I think as well the Brazilian broke the world record in both the 100 and the 200 in the summer so I knew that coming out and beating her in the 100 would put down a mark.

“I wanted to put my stamp on that (100m) and show that I’m here to contend.”

Her win today follows her remarkable performance on Sunday when she stunned a packed stadium with a phenomenal run in a stacked field that saw her crowned World Champion.

She powered over the line in a time of 11.88 seconds to win her first World Championship Gold medal.

Speaking after that race Comerford said: “It feels amazing! I feel like all season this was my goal, it’s not one you want to put out there and be like I want gold I want to be champion but I kind of kept my head down I knew that I had to work hard.”

Comerford has been going from strength to strength since the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, where she delivered a standout performance in the T13100m , securing the bronze medal with a time of 11.94 seconds marking her first Paralympic podium finish.

Tomorrow Lana Sutton has a late heat for her T38 100m in the evening session. Should she qualify for the final she will be the last Irish athlete in competition on Oct 2nd.
