Make a Splash at the Howth Maritime & Seafood Festival
Padraig Conlon 22 Aug 2025
The annual Howth Maritime & Seafood Festival sails into port once again, with this year’s event taking place on the 6th and 7th of September 2025.
Whether you are a seafood connoisseur, or looking for a fun, family-friendly day out, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy.
Running from 12-6pm daily, festival goers can enjoy specially selected seafood tastings caught fresh from the Irish Sea, live music, and a DJ providing entertainment all weekend.
Attendees can expect to view a variety of sea-life up close, which will all be returned to their homes after the event.
Various artisan craft and food stalls will feature at the festival, offering a variety of delicious street food & handmade goods, making it easy to support local businesses.
Mayor of Fingal Cllr Tom O’Leary said: “The beautiful, coastal town of Howth deserves to be celebrated, and the Howth Maritime festival does exactly that. It’s world class seafood and gorgeous shorelines will be enjoyed by both locals and visitors alike.
“This event will not be one to miss and I encourage everyone to join us in Howth this September to enjoy exceptional food, live entertainment, and the warm spirit of our community.”
The event is suitable for the whole family and packed with free activities and attractions, including inflatable games and a circus tent.
An enchanting kite workshop will also be hosted, where attendees can make and fly their own kites (fee applies).
For those who’d like a quieter space, Fingal’s mobile library will be on hand with great books to enjoy.
And if the busy atmosphere feels overwhelming at any stage, a quiet/sensory area, supported by the Howth Sutton Autism community will be available for anyone who needs it.
On Saturday, September 6th at 3:30pm, join experts, Nicole Dunne of Howth Foraging, alongside Suzanne Burns of Kinsale Food tours, for a Seaweed & Coastal Foraging Walk.
This hands-on workshop explores costal plants, timed to coincide with low tide. Interested participants are invited to meet at the Howth Scout Den.
Following on Sunday, September 7th at 1:00pm, Nicole returns for Coastal Foraging & Fisherman’s Folklore—a journey through coastal ecosystems, rich with stories from Howth’s maritime heritage.
This workshop will also meet at the Howth Scout Den.
Make sure to stop by the Howth Sea Angling Club, which will feature a fascinating sea life display, face painting, and a photograph exhibition where members will be highlighting the rich history and community of the club.
Paul Barnes, Event Manager at Fingal County Council, said: “The annual Howth Maritime and Seafood Festival is always an amazing weekend for the whole family.
“If you’re a fan of fresh seafood, costal walks or boat trips, you’ll be sure to have a great time at our celebration of the beautiful Howth. Just mind the seagulls trying to have a taste of your fish and chips!”
To help minimise traffic congestion and encourage sustainability, people are encouraged to utilise the various public transport options available.
The DART station is located adjacent to the main festival entrance, and bicycle parking will be available, along with additional car parking at Deer Park, just a short walk away.
