Upgrade works to begin on Skerries water and wastewater network

Padraig Conlon 21 Aug 2025

Work is due to begin next week on upgrading the water and wastewater network in Skerries.

The project, which is part of Uisce Éireann’s national Growth and Development Programme, will involve replacing about 540 metres of water mains and more than 200 metres of gravity sewer along Shenick Road.

According to Uisce Éireann, the works are intended to provide capacity for new housing developments in the area while also improving the reliability of existing water and wastewater services for local homes and businesses.

Traffic management measures will be in place during the project, including a Stop/Go system on Shenick Road.

Short-term water interruptions may also be necessary, with at least 48 hours’ notice promised before any planned outage.

The work will be carried out by GMC Utilities Group on behalf of Uisce Éireann and is scheduled for completion by early 2026.
