Do Not Swim Prohibition for Velvet Strand, Rush North, Loughshinny and Malahide
Padraig Conlon 24 Jul 2025
Prohibition notices have been erected at Velvet Strand, Portmarnock; Rush North; Loughshinny and Malahide. Incident is expected to last 8 days.
Bathing water quality results for testing this week have been received as follows;
Poor; Claremont beach*, Front Strand beach, Balbriggan*, Rush North beach and Malahide beach – Prohibition (Do not swim) notices replace Prior Warnings at these beaches (*notices already issued)
Good; Donabate – resample to be arranged, Excellent – remaining beaches
Following consultation with the HSE a decision to replace prior warning notices at Loughshinny beach and Velvet Strand beach, Portmarnock with Prohibition (Do not Swim) Notices (see attached) following reported overflow incidents by Uisce Eireann following the heavy rainfall on 21/7/25 (Orange rainfall warning in place).
Resamples to be arranged.
The beaches will remain open, but beach users are asked to respect the ‘Do Not Swim’ notice as it has been put in place to ensure that the health of bathers is not compromised.
Members of the public can check for water quality at any of the monitored bathing waters in Ireland in advance by accessing the EPA website at www.beaches.ie or by checking the notice board at the entrance to each beach.
