Embrace the New: Welcome The Year of the Snake!

Padraig Conlon 21 Jan 2025

The highly anticipated Hill Street Family Resource Centre Lunar New Year Community celebration returns for its eleventh year on Sunday, February 2, from 2pm.

Hill Street Family Resource Centre’s Lunar New Year Community Celebration sees Dublin 1 transformed into a wonderland of colour and activity; there is something for everyone with performances of traditional music and dance, workshops in Tai Chi, Origami and Calligraphy, and games and face painting for children, all brought together in a celebration of South East Asian Culture.

The Year of the Snake represents wisdom, elegance and transformation.

Launching the Festival, the Lord Mayor of Dublin Emma Blain commented, “I am delighted to see that Hill Street will once again be transformed by the Lunar New Year Celebrations!

“The Hill Street Lunar New Year Celebration is a fantastic way to welcome the Year of the Snake, and it is so wonderful to see Dublin’s Inner City decked out for a celebration of South East Asian culture and tradition.

“It is a reminder for us all that Dublin is open for anyone who chooses to call it home.”

Eileen Smith, CEO of HSFRC, is thrilled to be involved in the Lunar New Year Community Celebration on Hill Street, once again this year.

“It’s wonderful to celebrate the Lunar New Year for our eleventh year running, each year it gets bigger and better than the last!

“It’s a testament to our staff, volunteers and neighbours, who have put in countless hours of preparation into our Community Celebration over the past few months.”

“Our Lunar New Year Celebration is a direct result of the engagement of our South East Asian parents, who, eleven years ago, asked for an event that would allow their families a space to not only celebrate but take pride in their heritage.

“It is because of them that we now have this event, beloved by all in the community, and that we can continue the work of Hill Street Family Resource Centre to create meaningful and diverse community spaces where all are welcome and celebrated.”

The HSFRC Lunar New Year Community Celebration is a colourful and fun day of food, art, music and culture, with live onstage performances from 2pm to 7pm, Sunday 2nd February, on Hill Street in Dublin 1.

The 2025 Lunar New Year Community Celebration is organised by Hill Street Family Resource Centre, funded by the Government under the North East Inner City Initiative as part of its annual programme of community events, and is supported by Dublin City Council.
