Mayor congratulates councillors elected to Dáil Éireann
Padraig Conlon 04 Dec 2024The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Brian McDonagh, has congratulated the three members of Fingal County Council who were elected to Dáil Éireann in the 2024 General Election.
Deputies Robert O’Donoghue, Ann Graves, and Ruth Coppinger were elected in the Fingal West, Fingal East and Dublin West constituencies respectively.
Mayor McDonagh said: “On behalf of all the members of Fingal County Council I would like to congratulate Rob, Ruth and Ann on their election to Dáil Éireann and their new role representing the people of Fingal in our national parliament.”
AnnMarie Farrelly, Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, said: “Over the past 30 years, the Council Chamber has seen many members elected to Dáil Éireann with some going on to become ministers and one became Taoiseach. I wish Robert, Ann and Ruth well in their new roles.”
There are now three vacancies on Fingal County Council and it will be up to the new deputies’ respective political parties – Labour, Sinn Féin and People Before Profit / Solidarity – to put forward replacements for co-option onto the Council.
Of the 16 TDs elected in the four Dáil constituencies covering Fingal, nine are former members of Fingal County Council. The candidates elected were:
- Fingal East – Darragh O’Brien (Fianna Fáil), Duncan Smith (Labour), Ann Graves (Sinn Féin).
- Fingal West – Louise O’Reilly (Sinn Féin), Robert O’Donoghue (Labour), Grace Boland (Fine Gael).
- Dublin Bay North – Cian O’Callaghan (Social Democrats), Denise Mitchell (Sinn Féin), Naoise Ó Muirí (Fine Gael), Barry Heneghan (Independent), Tom Brabazon (Fianna Fáil).
- Dublin West – Jack Chamber (Fianna Fáil), Paul Donnelly (Sinn Féin), Emer Currie (Fine Gael), Ruth Coppinger (People Before Profit/Solidarity), Roderic O’Gorman (Green Party).
