Balbriggan shoppers urged to stay local this Christmas 

A north County Dublin coastal town, currently in the midst of a massive urban renewal initiative, is asking the community to support local during the Christmas period. 

There will be free parking in pay and display zones in Balbriggan on Saturday, December 7, 14 and 21. 

The town’s Christmas lights will be switched on at 6.00pm this coming Thursday, (December 5) with Santa Claus and the Balbriggan Gospel Choir in attendance at George’s Square. 

And cast members from the local Lark Concert Hall’s Christmas pantomime, Beauty and the Beast – which runs from December 5-30  – will also be there. 

The Our Balbriggan leadership group, formed at the outset of the regeneration programme in 2019, and now chaired by Dr David Begg, plays a key role in helping guide the town’s rejuvenation programme and has issued a call to support local business and hospitality in the days and weeks ahead. 

“It will be wonderful see people gather in Balbriggan to mark the festive season and I encourage locals and visitors to not only come into town and enjoy these events, but also to spend disposable income in Balbriggan this Christmas,” said Dr Begg. 

Balbriggan is currently seeing a €15million rejuvenation of its Harbour and Quay Street. 

The Quay Street and Harbour redevelopment project is the flagship element of the €50million Our Balbriggan Rejuvenation Programme. 

The Our Balbriggan Rejuvenation Programme is led by Fingal County Council’s Economic, Enterprise, Cultural and Tourism Department.    

The programme aims to create a more attractive, connected place where people want to live, work, visit and do business. 

The ambitious vision contained in the Our Balbriggan Rejuvenation Programme was the result of historic community engagement in 2019 which saw more than 25% of residents outline their preferences for the future of the town. 

The Programme set out an ambitious vison shaped by townspeople.
