Stardust campaigner Antoinette Keegan to stand in Dublin Bay North constituency
Padraig Conlon 05 Nov 2024Yesterday, Stardust fire survivor and campaigner Antoinette Keegan announced she is to run in the general election for the National Party in Dublin Fingal East.
Ms Keegan says she is committed to standing as a National Party candidate in the upcoming general election but has decided that she will instead contest the Dublin Bay North constituency and will be withdrawing from Dublin Fingal East.
Explaining her decision, Ms Keegan said:
“I have decided that I will contest the Dublin Bay North constituency and will be withdrawing from the race in Dublin Fingal East.
“I believe I am far better positioned to be elected as a TD and to put the interests of the Irish people first in the Dáil by standing as a candidate in my home turf of Dublin Bay North.
“I initially planned to contest Fingal East because the National Alliance – a voting group made up of the National Party, Ireland First and the Irish People to coordinate candidate selection and avoid nationalist vote splitting – had already selected a candidate in Dublin Bay North, Mr Kevin Coyle.
“Today Mr Coyle very graciously offered to withdraw from the race and to support me instead in Dublin Bay North.
“In consultation with my team, supporters, and colleagues from the National Party I have taken the decision to contest the five-seat Dublin Bay North constituency instead.
“If elected as a TD in Dublin Bay North, I will work tirelessly to ensure that true justice is served for victims of the Stardust fire.
“I will also be campaigning for serious social investment for communities in Dublin Bay North, with a priority focus on providing high-quality housing for the Irish people.
“I look forward to meeting the voters of Dublin Bay North over the next month to explain my policies for Dublin and the nation at-large, drawing on the same passion for justice which motivated my campaigning of over forty years for the victims of the Stardust fire.”
