Witnesses are being asked to come forward with any information

The family of an 80-year-old woman are appealing for witnesses after being involved in an accident on September 18.

Bernadette Kavanagh was cycling on the Forest Road, coming from Ridgewood and heading towards the Forest Little Golf Club between 4pm to 4:30pm, when a white car knocked her off her bike.

The two motorists who helped Kavanagh at the scene reported that the driver was a middle-aged female with glasses who appeared to be distracted.

They noted that the car had slowed down, almost coming to a stop, and then proceeded to drive off, leaving Kavanagh motionless on the ground.

The bike was ripped out from under Kavanagh, meaning that the driver of the white car wasn’t the allocated 1.5m distance away from a cyclist in the 80 km/h zone.

One of the witnesses phoned the gardaí, and the other witness brought Kavanagh to the Ridgewood Medical Centre where she received paper stitches to the gash in her head.

Following that, Kavanagh was brought to Connolly Hospital to ensure her hand wasn’t broken.

A few days later, she started to complain about the muscles in her right leg causing her to struggle with walking and she has not been able to leave the house since which has taking a heavy toll on her.

Kavanagh’s family noted that there is not much CCTV coverage in the area, and is appealing for Northside People readers who were in the area at the time to come forward with any relevant information.

They asked that anyone with any information should report it to the Garda station in Swords.
