Dublin City Council celebrated 20 years of shining a spotlight on community initiatives at the City Neighbourhoods North Central Awards 2024 at the Dublin Airport Hilton Hotel.

For two decades, the awards have recognised the efforts of communities, schools and businesses to bring about a cleaner, greener environment and make local areas more attractive for the benefit of all city residents and visitors.

Organised by the Waste Management Section of the City Council, Dublin North Central Area winners go forward to the overall city awards later this year.

Entries are managed through Dublin City Council’s Public Domain and Community Development teams.

The event, held last Thursday September 12, opened with the presentation of €1,000 in aid of the City Neighbourhoods initiative by Rosanna Del Rio and Alannah Brougham from the Artane Branch of Members First Credit Union.

The cheque was presented to Mr Derek Farrell, the Local Area Manager for the Artane/Whitehall Local Electoral Area.

“This event is a celebration?and recognition?of what each community group has done to greatly enhance their local area,” said Councillor Daryl Barron, Chairperson of the North Central Area Committee.

“On behalf of the North Central Area, I would like to congratulate?all entrants and award winners and recognise the positive impact they’ve made for their respective communities?across the area in the last twelve months.?

?“Each group plays a pivotal?role in the community, paving the way on many environmental?projects.

“This year we are celebrating 20 years of City Neighbourhoods, which is proudly supported by Dublin City Council.?

“The aim of the competition is to bring about a cleaner, greener environment and to make local areas more attractive for the benefit of all city residents and visitors.

“These awards recognise the great work that communities and businesses carry out to improve and enhance their neighbourhood, keeping it clean and well presented.

“Measures taken by entrants to control litter and graffiti, to organise socially inclusive community events and to work in partnership with Dublin City Council, all contribute to high marks.

“Congratulations again to all entrants, each and every one of you are the heartbeat of your communities that make your local area tick on the ground.”
