Padraig Conlon 27 May 2024Radyah Amusat and Noemi Varga, students from Belmayne Educate Together Secondary School participated in the Technovation Ireland Regional Pitch Event with their innovative app, iHearU.
Their project, developed as part of the Teen-Turn after school program, addresses common issues like shortsightedness and allergies, providing a practical solution through technology.
When asked how they came up with the idea for their project, Radya and Noemi explained: “We thought of common issues that affect many people’s lives and narrowed them down to shortsightedness and allergies.”
This brainstorming led to the creation of iHearU, an app that scans barcodes of products and converts the text to speech, making it easier for users to identify items.
The girls expressed great pride in their teamwork and cooperation.
“We really enjoyed the Teen-Turn sessions,” they noted, highlighting the fun and learning aspects of the program.
The support from mentors during these sessions played a crucial role in their project’s development.
Participation with Teen-Turn has further solidified their interest in technology as part of the after school programme involved learning how to code a mobile app.
“I always foresaw a job in the tech field myself, but Teen-Turn just enhanced that dream,” Radya mentioned, reflecting on her career aspirations.
Pitching at the RPE in AMD’s EMEA Headquarters was a unique experience for the duo.
Their favorite part was the projects themselves, showcasing their dedication and enthusiasm for technology and innovation.
Radya and Noemi’s achievement in the Technovation competition highlights their creativity, collaboration, and the potential of young innovators in addressing real-world problems through technology.
