295 new homes built in Fingal in first quarter of 2024

The latest home completion figures for Fingal show further substantial progress in tackling the housing crisis, a Fine Gael Councillor has said.

The official Central Statistics Office (CSO) for homes completed for the first three months of 2024 reveal 295 new residences for Fingal Co Council.

Fine Gael Councillor Tom O’Leary said “the report evidently displays the impact Fine Gael-backed initiatives are having.

“Cabinet’s approval this week to extend the waiver for development levies and the rebate for water connection charges will ensure that this great progress in Fingal continues.

“There is no question that the Development Levy waiver and Uisce Éireann connection rebate scheme has resulted in a huge increase in the number of homes in Fingal.

“Additionally, the popularity of the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant with 4,376 applications approved nationwide shows that these Fine Gael-backed supports are delivering.”

O’Leary noted that should the national trend hold, over 45,000 homes could be built across Ireland in 2024.

“The signs of this accelerated progress to deliver homes is evident here in Fingal and the 15,421  new homes built up to  2024 represent a new start and a bright future for those individuals, couples and families who now live in them.

“The First Home scheme, initiated in July 2022, is designed to close the gap for qualified buyers in Fingal between the maximum mortgage available to them and the price of a new home. An additional €80m has been allocated by Fine Gael in Government to ensure the continuation of this initiative.

O’Leary disclosed that 328 people availed of the First Home Scheme in Fingal in 2022 and 2023, and 9,639 people availed of the scheme in Dublin in the same period.

“Our party is advocating for this to be extended by another five years to provide stability for future homeowners and builders in Fingal,” O’Leary stated.

“Today’s housing completion figures demonstrate that our housing plan is working in Fingal, and that more houses are coming on the market,” he said.
