Fingal County Council delays in tenant in situ scheme

CATU Fingal say they are calling on Fingal County Council to immediately engage with them on the multiple families they represent that are facing eviction.

“CATU Fingal is urgently requesting Fingal County Council to arrange a meeting with us to address the pressing concerns of many families we represent who are currently at risk of homelessness,” CATU Fingal said in a statement.

“CATU has communicated to FCC on twenty different occasions since early June, seeking to arrange meetings to address the various eviction cases concerning our CATU members.

“Notably, Councillor Dean Mulligan and Councillor Paul Mulville put forth a motion, which was passed at a council meeting on the 12th of October, mandating FCC’s engagement with CATU.

“However, despite this, CATU has yet to receive a confirmed meeting date, leaving multiple families we represent in the distressing situation of facing imminent homelessness.

“This situation has placed an enormous burden of stress on these families, and in certain instances, they are at risk of losing their home due to the inaction of FCC for these tenants under the Tenant in Situ Scheme.

“Long delays in the processing of these applications has meant that the landlord has put the houses out on the market.

“It is unacceptable for families and young children to unnecessarily be forced into emergency accommodation due to long processing delays.

“Minister Darragh O’Brien must intervene and expedite cases and implement resources to address delays with his schemes for the many families that are unnecessarily on the verge of homelessness.

Bryn Edwards of CATU Fingal said “These delays are unacceptable.

“The council must engage with us to address the urgent needs of the tenants we represent.

“We want to make it clear that we plan on visiting the Housing Department on the 7th, and we won’t leave until we secure a meeting.

“We intend to escalate our actions by organising larger community protests and taking further action until they meet with us and assist families who are bearing the brunt of failed government policies affecting tenants we represent”

A tenant CATU Fingal represent said “The Tenant in Situ Scheme was applied to several months ago, and my landlord has now put the house on the market.

“I have young children who will be uprooted from their lives and school, and put in emergency accommodation.

“This situation has created immense stress on both my family and me.

“We implore Fingal County Council to immediately intervene and put in place a process to help us and other families in our situation”
