Celebrating the 100th anniversary of Marino

Padraig Conlon 18 Jul 2023

To celebrate the upcoming 100th anniversary of the development of Marino, Dublin City Council Heritage Office, the Marino Residents Association and heritage consultants Abarta Heritage are hosting their second show and tell story-sharing event.

Marino and Fairview residents can come to the Carleton Community Hall this Saturday, July 22nd, from 2 – 4.30 pm and share stories about the area, bring along objects or artefacts from the past and hear about the heritage project.

The first Show & Tell event was a great success, with residents from all parts of Marino and Fairview displaying objects such as gas masks from World War II, photographs, newspaper cuttings, early house deeds and objects found during modern renovations.

It was an excellent opportunity for the community to chat and reminisce about life in Marino since construction of this garden suburb began in 1924.

These events are part of a heritage project, supported by the Heritage Council and Dublin City Council Heritage Office.

This project is aiming to gather stories, memories, folklore, and historical and archaeological information about the area.

An online StoryMap has been created for the community to contribute information about people who lived in the area, events that took place, memories, photographs and audio clips, enhancing our understanding of the history of Marino.

It can be found here: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/4866426c67754073ae5bbed52cd1b73a

The next show & tell event, hosted by Abarta Heritage, the Marino Residents Association and Dublin City Council Heritage Office will be on July 22nd.

All are welcome to attend to find out more about the project and share memorabilia as well as memories and stories about past times in Marino.

This event is free and open to all at Carleton Hall (Marino Community Centre) on Saturday, July 22nd, from 2 – 4.30 pm.
