Do not swim notice issued for Front Strand in Balbriggan

Gary Ibbotson 15 Jun 2023

A do not swim prohibition notice has been issued today for Front Strand Balbriggan for the next six days.

This is due to elevated bacterial results in seawater in testing carried out on June 12.

The likely cause is that water quality deteriorated due to suspected impacts from animals/birds and contamination of urban surface waters discharging into bathing water, according to a Fingal County Council spokesperson.

An end of incident sample to be arranged and then the prohibition will be reviewed.

“Front Strand remains open but beach users are asked to respect the ‘Do Not Swim’ notice as it has been put in place to ensure that the health of bathers is not compromised.

“Members of the public can check for water quality at any of the monitored bathing waters in Ireland in advance by accessing the EPA website at www.beaches.ie or by checking the notice board at the entrance to each beach.”
