Dublin priest faces unprecedented challenges in South Lebanon as passport delays threaten education for Syrian street children

Fr. William Stuart, a priest from Dublin, is facing a daunting predicament in his tireless efforts to support Syrian street children in south Lebanon.

Fr. Stuart, who is from Clontarf, runs a school for these destitute children, providing them with education and hope amidst the ravages of war.

However, an unforeseen bureaucratic hurdle has put the future of the school in jeopardy.

Fr. Stuart’s school serves as a sanctuary for some of the poorest children affected by the Syrian conflict.

Among his 300 pupils, a staggering 65% are forced to work on the streets or in agriculture, starting as young as six years old.

The school not only offers them an education but also provides a respite from the hardships they endure daily.

Last October, Fr. William submitted his passport to General Security in Lebanon for the renewal of his Residency permit, an essential requirement to continue his humanitarian work.

Unfortunately, eight months have passed, and his application remains in limbo.

Distressingly, the authorities refuse to return his passport until the process is complete.

Additionally there is no Irish embassy in Lebanon to provide him assistance.

The implications of this situation are dire.

Fr. William’s inability to return to Ireland has left him unable to engage in crucial fundraising efforts necessary to sustain the school for the upcoming academic year.

Without external support, the school’s operation is at risk, leaving the vulnerable children with limited prospects for a better future.

Fr. Stuart’s unwavering commitment to these children and their education cannot be overstated.

He selflessly dedicates himself to their well-being, acting as their guiding light amidst challenging circumstances.

However, without the support of compassionate individuals and organizations, his hands are tied.

An appeal has been put out to the public and philanthropic community to rally together and extend a helping hand to Fr. William Stuart and his students.

Your support can make a profound difference in the lives of these innocent children, providing them with the education and opportunities they so desperately need.

it is hoped that Fr. Stuart will be able to continue his invaluable work and ensure that hope continues to flourish for these resilient young souls.
