Annual Marino Family Fun Cycle to take place this Sunday, May 21
Gary Ibbotson 15 May 2023The annual Marino Family Fun Cycle will take place this Sunday, May 21 at 3pm.
Organised by the Go Slow in Marino team and supported by Dublin City Council and Marino Residents Association, the community cycle aims to celebrate Bike Week and raise awareness of bike safety in Marino.
“We want to remind motorists to slow down and keep our roads safe for everyone, especially our vulnerable and little ones,” organisers say.
“The recent road works in Fairview has seen an increase in traffic volumes through Marino and not all are aware of the 30km speed limit.”
The Go Slow in Marino group is made up of “passionate” parents who have been campaigning for safer streets in the Marino Estate.
Go Slow in Marino have been promoting outdoor play and sustainable forms of travel.
They have run two community cycles, a balloon event, poster competitions, and playing out events.
The campaign has also been working with the local schools to promote Safe Routes to School and Park+Stride options.
“We’ll be meeting at St Aiden’s Park, in Marino, and cycling together through the streets of Marino, highlighting the 30km speed limit and reminding everyone to slow down,” they say.
“It’s a great opportunity to get some exercise, enjoy the fresh air, and spend quality time with your family, friends and neighbours.”
Marian Kelly from Go Slow Marino said: “We are thrilled to see the growing momentum of all events hosted by Go Slow in Marino.
“Our community has come together to promote road safety, outdoor play, and sustainable travel. We hope to see many families and individuals join us for a fun and safe afternoon.”
All ages are welcome, and we can’t wait to see you there! For more information and to register, check out Go Slow in Marino on Facebook. Let’s ride!”
