“Now time for us to get on with our lives,” says councillor
Padraig Conlon 18 Apr 2023Councillor Nial Ring says the verdict in the murder trial of Gerry Hutch was widely discussed in the north inner-city yesterday afternoon and the impact of the feud on the Hutch family and beyond remembered.
“However, the overwhelming feeling among residents was that the whole trial was a distraction and that it was now time for us to get on with our lives,” Cllr Ring said following the announcement of the verdict.
“Of course people were interested in the trial, but it was a painful reminder of the horrible events that took place during the feud in the North Inner City since 2016.
“This community did not allow the feud to take over the North Inner City and, despite the appalling tragedies which took place on our streets, the community stood firm and always concentrated on the positives here.
“The vast majority of the Hutch family have and will always be respected members of our community.
“The North Inner City community always sticks together, looks out for one another and gets on with it.
“We always look forward, and with inspirational figures in the areas such as Kellie Harrington, Emmett Brennan, Troy Parrott and Barry Keoghan showing great leadership and inspiration to the young people of the area, it is obvious that the area will continue to prove to outsiders what it always believes and knows it is – a great community which concentrates on looking after its young people it’s older people and the more vulnerable of its residents.
“There are great things happening in the North Inner City with Dublin City, Council housing developments at Dominick Street, O’ Devaney Gardens, North King Street, Croke Villas, etc, all making a positive impact. and the ongoing NEIC project funding of many educational, public realm, health, policing and other projects are all having a massive positive impact” he further added.
“It is onwards and upwards for this community, the end of the trial is hopefully another milestone which will eventually see the closing chapter in the nightmare which was the Hutch/Kinihen feud written.” he concluded.
