Warning notices at Rush and Sutton beaches for water quality have been lifted following the return of samples deemed ‘Excellent’ by Fingal County Council.

However, the Do Not Swim notice has been extended on Balbriggan Front Strand Beach to Wednesday, September 14.

Heavy rainfall (yellow rain warning) on the 4th September resulted in an overflow at Quay St. pumping station in Balbriggan,” a spokesperson for the local authority said.

“Subsequently a sample from Monday 5th September met the standard for poor water quality.

“Further sample results from Wednesday 7th September saw an improvement in water quality with results within the mandatory standard for bathing waters, however not to the level required to remove the current notice.

“A resample will be taken on Monday 12th September with results expected 14th September, when a decision to remove the prohibition notice can be made and replaced with the all season advisory notice.”
