All 10 Fingal Library branches have now been equipped with FamilySearch, meaning researchers will be able to access digitized images from FamilySearch collections, that would otherwise be restricted.

This service is available for free, while onsite at your local Fingal Library.

Fingal County Council said in a statement: “The designation means local library borrowers will now have greater and more convenient access, to the wealth of genealogical resources available through FamilySearch.

“The popular web service has over 6 billion searchable names, and 2 billion images of historical genealogical records.”

FamilySearch adds over 300 million free genealogical records and images online yearly, from all over the world, and manages the famous Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.

It has amassed billions of birth, marriage, death, census, land and court records, from more than 130 countries, to help you discover and make family connections.

County Librarian, Betty Boardman praised the introduction of the new online genealogical resource saying: “Discovering more about our ancestors gives us a deeper appreciation of where we come from, and who we are.

“We are very pleased to announce that all ten Fingal Library branches, and our Local Studies department, are now FamilySearch Affiliate Libraries.

“A welcome addition to the wide range of amazing online services, and resources on offer at your local library.”
