Irish Water have postponed scheduled works on Saturday in the Clontarf Area following engagement with the local community and businesses.

The postponement of works allows a local event to take place without risk of interruption to water services.

The works will restart next week and involve the replacement of over 6km of aged cast iron water mains with new modern pipes.

These works are being carried out as part of Irish Water’s National Leakage Reduction Programme and involve laying new water service connections from the public water main to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply.

Where these connections are lead the public side of the connection will be replaced.

Planned works are continuing today with resulting outages in areas of Clontarf up to 4pm, the majority of customers should have water back in service by 6pm.

Matt Thompson said “On behalf of Irish Water, I’d like to thank the local residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation as there continues to be some disruption in the short term, however, based on previous experiences, we know that this will be overshadowed by the longer-term benefits.

“We are happy to postpone works to facilitate the event taking place at the weekend and would like to thank the community and local businesses for their continued engagement and support.

“Fixing leaks can be complicated but we are making progress.

“In 2018 the rate of leakage nationally was 46%, by the end of 2021 it was reduced to 38%.

“We are on track to achieve a national leakage rate of 32% by the end of 2024.”
