Swords adult Irish dancers become All Ireland Champions in Irish Dancing

Adult dancers ranging from 24-63 years of age from the Hughes Academy of Irish Dance Swords (Liam Rodgers Community Centre) took to the stage in the WIDA All Ireland Championships last weekend.

And there were celebrations after their dancers were crowned All Ireland Champions in the Over 30s 8 hand Championship and the Over 30s 4 Hand Championship.

They also secured 2nd place in the over 30s 8 Hand Championship & 4th place in the Under 30s 4 Hand Championship.

Solo dancers took to the stage on Sunday securing many 1st, 2nd & 3rd places in the beginners and primary sections over 25.

Rebecca Hughes, from Hughes Academy Swords, told Northside People she was delighted with the performances of the Academy dancers and was full of praise for them.

“These women started dancing for different reasons many for fitness and social and some only in the last couple of months and now have All Ireland titles under their belts,” she said.

“Their love and support for one another is like nothing I have ever witnessed within the Irish Dance world and they are all inspirational.

“They will be heading to the Irish Open in November with the hopes of qualifying for the World Championships in Killarney next April.

“You are never to old to start something new or return to an old love.

“Classes are catered for Adult Beginners to championship level dancers in Swords.”
