Several Fingal community projects have been awarded funding under the 2021 Community Activities Fund, Minister Joe O’Brien TD has announced.

The 2021 Community Activities Fund was launched in November last year with funding of €9 million available.

Fingal projects received an allocation of €301,042 from the Department under the fund.

Among the projects which were allocated financial support include:

  • Skerries Youth Support Services – €3,300
  • O’Dwyer’s GAA Club – €3,900
  • Lusk Community Council – €2,500
  • Rush Community Council – €3,800
  • Donabate Portrane Community Centre – €2,000
  • Swords CFR – €1,575
  • Portmarnock Scout Troup – €3,250

The Department of Community Development says that the key theme of the fund is to support groups, particularly in disadvantaged areas, with their running costs such as utility or insurance bills, as well as with improvements to their facilities.

Groups will also be able to use the funding to carry out necessary repairs and to purchase equipment such as tables and chairs, tools and signage, laptops and printers, lawnmowers, canopies and training equipment.

These could include facilities such as community centres, men’s and women’s sheds, parish halls and youth centres.

Announcing the successful projects for Fingal today, Minister O’Brien said: “The Community Activities Fund provides a range of invaluable small grants to help the smaller community groups and facilities that support communities at a grassroots level.

“I know that this funding is an important tool in helping these groups and we were especially conscious of the impact of COVID-19 that many groups would need supports to help them get back up and running fully.

“I want to congratulate the successful projects and to thank them for the vital work they do in providing services in their local communities.”
