Donnycarney residents living in “The Clans” will receive tree specimens to plant in their gardens in an effort to improve biodiversity in the area.

Fianna Fail councillor Deirdre Heney, who tabled the motion calling for the city council to distribute the trees, said she was “delighted” to see the scheme be implemented.

The motion which was tabled read: “That Dublin City Council would now provide small specimen tree types to householders living in areas where roadside planting is unsuitable (due to narrowness of road/footpath such as “The Clans” in Donnycarney) to plant on their own property which planting would contribute positively to the lack of greenery in such localities.”

Councillor Heney said: “Local residents in her community have been communicating with her over the years about the lack of trees in “The Clans” area.

“This tree project will offer an opportunity to encourage the greening of the area which currently has little or no roadside trees, due to the lack of adequate footpaths space.”.

The roads included in the project include: Clanranald Road, Clanree Road, Clanmaurice Road, Clandonagh Road, Clanhugh Road, Clanmahon Road, and Clanawley Road, Donnycarney.
