Fingal County Council says it will be marking International Women’s Day 2022 across all their digital platforms and in a series of in person events.

Fingal County Council’s Community and Sports Office are hosting a range of initiatives across Fingal to celebrate women’s achievements and increase visibility, while calling out gender inequality.

Commencing Monday, March 7, the Council will be awarding participants from our She Leads We Lead Community Leadership Programme.

On March 8, a series of safety self-defence demonstrations and talks are taking place in Blakestown, Lusk, Rush and Baldoyle.

These sessions will culminate in the Shine A Light for Women Walk and tree planting ceremony in Millennium Park, Blanchardstown.

The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Seána Ó Rodaigh and Council Chief Executive AnnMarie Farrelly will also be speaking during this event.

In addition, they will be highlighting the Achievements of Women with guest speakers and panel discussions in Balbriggan and a Women’s in Sport Live Rugby Coaching session in Swords.

Come along and join in the celebration.

Check out the Fingal County Council website and social media accounts on the day where we will be focusing on the work of some of the many talented women employed in Fingal County Council.

We will also be celebrating our team of dedicated female Councillors at a very exciting time for Fingal County Council when we are led by a female Chief Executive and represented by a female Mayor.

Fingal Sports Office, Local Enterprise Office and Libraries will be hosting online discussion and events on the theme of International Women’s Day during Women in Sport week and Local Enterprise Week.

The theme for International Women’s Day 2022 is #BreakTheBias:

“Imagine a gender equal world.

A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.

A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

A world where difference is valued and celebrated.

Together we can forge women’s equality.

Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.” IWD 2022

The Mayor of Fingal, Seána Ó Rodaigh said: “International Women’s day is more than just a day to celebrate women and their achievements.

“It’s a day to empower, encourage and motivate any agenda aimed at improving equal rights and opportunities for women.

“A day to realise our capabilities and display our strength and abilities in order to improve the life choices of future girls and women.

“Whether it is a day of reflection, of action or of fun, there is plenty going on in Fingal in the means of showing solidarity.”

Fingal County Council Chief Executive AnnMarie Farrelly said:

“It is important that we mark International Women’s Day and pay tribute to the significant role women play in our community.

“I am delighted Fingal County Council can host in-person events this year for International Women’s Day, such as the Shine Your Light walk and tree planting event in Millennium Park.

“Not only can we celebrate women’s achievements on this day, we can host morning talks to continue the discussion on the #BreakTheBias theme, as well as display women in judo and self-defence classes to show girl power and equipping women with the necessary safety tips and measures.“
