The shocking condition of prefab classrooms at Gaelscholáiste Reachrann in Donaghmede must be rectified immediately, while the construction of a new school building must be prioritised, according to Social Democrats Dublin Bay North TD Cian O’Callaghan.

“Every child deserves to be taught in a warm, safe and secure classroom,” he said.

“Unfortunately, that is not the case for far too many children.

“The conditions in Gaelscholáiste Reachrann in Donaghmede are truly shocking.

“The walls and ceilings of the prefabs are badly damaged, toilets are clogged and children have complained about being cold.

“This is utterly unacceptable.

“The Department of Education must prioritise the delivery of a new school building. In the interim, it must ensure that the prefabs are repaired immediately and brought up to an acceptable standard.

“I am calling on the Minister for Education to take urgent action to rectify this completely unacceptable situation.”
