Site confirmed for Malahide – Portmarnock ETNS
Padraig Conlon 01 Jul 2021Fine Gael Fingal TD Alan Farrell says he welcomes confirmation of a new, permanent location for the Malahide – Portmarnock ETNS.
Deputy Farrell said, “This has been a long-awaited project and I am pleased that the Department has confirmed the location for the new school building.
“Following a careful process, a 4-acre greenfield site in Broomfield, Malahide, has been chosen for the permanent accommodation of students.”
“The school has long been located at the Teagasc building on the Malahide Road, somewhat outside its designed catchment for the Malahide & Portmarnock communities.
“We must now turn our focus to delivering the school without delay. The current location at Teagasc is unsuitable for students and also presents problems for 6th class students with regard to the catchment area for secondary school enrolment.”
Deputy Farrell continued: “This project will improve the quality of education for students, for years to come and this is a welcome development in what has at times been a frustrating process.
“As a member of the Oireachtas Committee on Education, I am committed to delivering the highest standard of education in Fingal and across the country.”
“Education is the single biggest key to unlocking the potential of young people and they deserve to have the best options available to them, expanding the number of local schools and places for local students is fundamental to this goal.” Deputy Farrell added.
