Tributes come in for councillor Freddie Cooper, who passed away yesterday

Tributes have come in for Fianna Fail councillor for the Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart area Freddie Cooper who passed away yesterday.

Cooper was first elected to the council in 2019.

The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Seána Ó Rodaigh said he was an excellent councillor who represented the people of his community with distinction.

“It was with deep sadness that I learned of the death of Cllr Freddie Cooper and, on behalf of myself and my fellow councillors, I would like to offer my condolences to his wife Mary and his family on their sad loss,” said Ó Rodaigh

“Like myself, Cllr Cooper was elected at 2019 Local Elections and, in his two years on Council, he was an excellent representative for the people of Blanchardstown and Mulhuddart. Solas síoraí dó.”

The Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly, said: “The staff of Fingal County Council are extremely saddened at the untimely passing of Cllr Freddie Cooper and we extend our sympathies to his wife Mary and his family at this sad time.

“It was always a pleasure to deal with Cllr Cooper who was extremely professional in his dealings with myself and other officials.

“He represented the Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart Local Electoral Area with distinction and was always extremely supportive of any initiatives to improve other areas of the county.”

As a mark of respect to the late Cllr Cooper, flags at County Hall, Swords, and Civic Offices, Blanchardstown, are being flown at half-mast.
