A representative body for Irish salon owners has blasted the new Covid Government restrictions set to come in at midnight tomorrow.

The Irish Hairdressers Federation have expressed “regret and disappointment” at the impending restrictions that are likely to be placed on hairdressers and salons.

In a statement released last night they said:

“Hairdressers have experienced an extraordinary increase in bookings over the weekend since increased restrictions have been discussed by NPHET and the Government.

“Specifically, the Irish Hairdressers Federation believe they should remain open as their salons have carefully followed all necessary measures to combat COVID-19.

“Salon owners have extended their opening hours from the weekend to meet the surge in demand.”

Speaking following the announcment of the new restrictions last night, Vice-President Lisa Eccles said:

“Our salons have experienced a surge in demand within the last 48 hours following the expected increase in restrictions by Government.

“Our salons are now trying to bring in extra staff at short notice and extend opening hours to meet the needs of our loyal customers.

“We are awaiting an announcement but we would regret any restrictions on our industry. From day one when we reopened, we have followed all guidelines and looked after our customers in a safe environment.

“We are doing our very best to support jobs and remain open. We hope that Government is listening.”

The Irish Hairdressers Federation is the representative body for Irish salon owners, representing over 500 salon owners nationwide.
