Free Hip Hop classes for teenagers coming to Fingal
Padraig Conlon 07 Sep 2020Three free online live Hip Hop classes are set to be broadcast to devices across Fingal.
The classes are supported as part of the new approach by Fingal Sports Office in providing opportunities of physical activity for teenagers in a safe and fun way and working within Sport Ireland’s Return to Sport Guidelines.
The classes will be broadcast through Zoom on Tuesdays the 15th, 22nd and 29th of September form 6pm to 7pm.
There is no charge but participants need to pre-register in order to get their Zoom invitation.
The sessions will be led and choreographed by Donna Moran from Irish Hip Hop Master Champions Fit Kids/Fit Teens Dance School.
Mayor of Fingal Cllr. David Healy said:
‘It is wonderful to see these online Hip Hop Classes supported by Fingal Sports Office.
“They are a fun way to encourage participation in physical activity by people who may not be interested in taking part in traditional sports.”
Donna Moran, who choreographs the classes, is a very experienced Dance instructor and represented Ireland with the Raw Edge Crew at The World Hip Hop Championships and made the Semi-final of Sky Ones “Got To Dance”
“Donna has worked closely with the Fingal Sports Office on programmes such as Exercise: Energise and Fingal Sports Office Hip Hop Challenge” stated Fingal Sports Development Officer Caitríona Geraghty, “ these programmes which are part -funded through Sport Ireland’s Women in Sport initiatives aim to increase physical activity among teenage girls and hopefully in this case boys through a fun activity”.
Margaret Geraghty, Director of Services of Housing and Community has welcomed the initiative.
“Live Hip Hop Classes are an outcome of an online meeting that officials from my Department, Environment and Operations had with teenage representatives during the summer,” she said.
“This may be an example of how our Sports Development Office may have to engage in the future with the community by using online platforms”.
This is not the first time that Fingal Sports Office has used online platforms to engage with the Fingal Community.
Throughout the Summer the Fingal Digifit sessions, which are still available to view on the Healthy Fingal Learning Portal learning.fingal.ie and Fingal Sports Office’s Social Media Platform, provided a home workout for those looking to keep fit.
Any aspiring Hip Hop Dancers can find out how to register for these classes by following @FingalSports on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook which they will find the link to the registration or contact Caitríona Geraghty, Sports Development Officer [email protected]
