A TOP Northside basketball team remains firm favourites to secure the Women’s Super League title after coming up a spot short a season previous.

League leaders DCU Mercy host Maree this Sunday (March 1) in a game that promises to play a significant part in the destination of the title.

Maree got the better of coach Mark Ingle’s outfit in the reverse fixture, edging a narrow 72-70 victory in Galway.

The sides will take to the floor at 2.30pm in DCU, both vying for a say in Super League glory.

A packed weekend of women’s basketball continues when Ambassador UCC Glanmire journey to the capital to face off against Pyrobel Killester.

The sides comfortably occupy third and fourth place, with Glanmire having the upper hand and a buffer of two wins between them and their opponents.

Killester will look to bounce back from a tough defeat at the hands of Maree last weekend, with Adella Randal El (26) and Christa Reed (22) both posting stellar outings in a tough overtime defeat. Glanmire will feel they still have an outside chance at the title, especially if DCU Mercy fail to pick up points on home soil.

Pyrobel Killester v Ambassador UCC Glanmire, takes place tomorrow (February 29) at IWA Clontarf at 5pm.

Meanwhile, in the Men’s Super League, Pyrobel Killester will strive to claw level on points with their opponents, Keane’s Supervalu Killorglin, when they host a testing Kerry side in IWA-Clontarf tomorrow (February 29) at 7pm.

Killester will look to keep their winning streak intact, following strong showings against Maree and Neptune in their last two encounters.
