A NORTHSIDE TD has welcomed the Capital Works Plan for Beaumont Hospital but warned that work must be progressed as a matter of urgency.
Tommy Broughan TD (Ind) recently received an answer to a Parliamentary Question (PQ) in relation to the much-needed work.
Chief executive of Beaumont Hospital Ian Carter outlined a number of Capital Works Plans, including the Cystic Fibrosis Ward, a new Emergency Department, Mechanical Thrombectomy improvements, a 100-bed Ward Block and the next phase of the St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Centre.
Planning for the Cystic Fibrosis Ward was secured on March 26, 2019 and funding was confirmed on the October 1, 2019 to progress to the Design Stage.
The reply states: “The programme of works, if commenced and delivered aggressively and without foreseeable delay is estimated at 24 months” and is expected to cost €11 million.
Regarding the new Emergency Department, approval was granted by the HSE on October 15, 2019 to progress the procurement and design team for this project, which is estimated to take four years and cost around €50 million.
Work relating to Mechanical Thrombectomy is a one and a half year development/installation project costed at around €3.4 million and involves works for the Radiology Department.
This was also granted approval by the HSE on October 15, 2019 to progress to the next phase. Funding is being pursued for the 100-bed Ward which is estimated to cost around €40 million and would take three years to construct.
In November 2019, the HSE applied for planning permission for the extension of the Cancer Centre at Beaumont.
