Funding boost for community groups

OVER 2,000 projects, including a large number from the Northside, are to receive Government funding. 

Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring has announced that 2,106 community initiatives around the country have been allocated a total of €4,524,124 under his Department’s Community Enhancement Programme.

The programme provides capital grants to community groups to help them to enhance their facilities.

The Northside recipients include:

• Balbriggan Meals CLG (€6,000)

• 27th Division Clongriffin Scouts (€4,787)

• Connections Foroige, Whitehall (€1,000)

• Community Law and Mediation, Coolock (€4,758)

• Tús Nua Artane Coolock Family Resource Centre CLG (€5,000)

• Darndale Belcamp Village Centre CLG (€5,000)

• Ierne Social and Sports Club, Drumcondra (€1,500)

• St Luke’s Active Age Group, Kilmore West (€5,000)

• 92nd Dublin Clontarf Scout Group (€5,000)

• 80th Scout Group Coolock (€2,600)

• Kilbarrack Coast Community Programme CLG, (€3,159)

• Baldoyle Forum CLG (€1,000)

• Bayside Community Association (€1,000)

• Baldoyle Boxing Club (€1,000)

• Inisfail Social Athletic & Recreation Club, Balgriffin (€10,000)

• Gravity Autism Support, Dublin 5 (€2,000)

Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Richard Bruton welcomed the funding for groups across the Dublin Bay North constituency.

“I am delighted that such a wide range of groups have been successful,” he said.

“Volunteers are the backbone of these groups and are invaluable to our communities. This funding from Government will greatly benefit these deserving local organisations including in Clongriffin, Coolock, Artane, Darndale, Kilmore West, Clontarf and Baldoyle.” 

Speaking at the announcement, Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring said: “Having allocated over €4.5 million under the Community Enhancement Programme in 2019, I am delighted to confirm that more than 2,000 projects are set to benefit from it. 

“A relatively small amount of money can go a long way and this investment will greatly benefit local community projects throughout the country.”

“Typical enhancements under the Programme include the renovation of community centres and community amenities, improvements to town parks and common areas and spaces and the purchase of equipment which is used to benefit the community. 

“The programme has also supported energy efficient upgrades, developing community gardens, provision of defibrillators, CCTV, and sports and IT equipment.”
