St Francis Hospice celebrates prestigious award win

ST FRANCIS Hospice Dublin, which serves North Dublin city and county, has been awarded the National Charity Impact Award for 2019 in the Large Organisation category.

The prestigious accolade, which is awarded by The Wheel, the national association of charities, celebrates the positive impact of Ireland’s top charities and promotes best practice in the non-profit sector.

St Francis Hospice Dublin provides a specialist palliative care service for the people of North Dublin.

It is a voluntary organisation under the care of the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul. Some of the services provided are: Community Palliative Care, Hospice Day Care, Inpatient Units, Outpatient Services and Bereavement Care. 

Last year, St Francis Hospice Dublin cared for more than 1,700 patients and their families.

The hospice provides care to people with life-limiting illnesses both in their own homes and in the two hospice facilities located in Raheny and Blanchardstown. This care is provided free of charge by a multidisciplinary team of staff and volunteers.

Ninety-nine charities from across Ireland were nominated for the Charity Impact Awards, and St Francis Hospice Dublin was among just 25 shortlisted for an award in one of six categories. The winners were announced at a special awards ceremony at the Mansion House.

Entry to the competition entailed the submission of a two-minute video and a completed application form.

St Francis Hospice received more than 3,000 votes, gaining over 68 percent of the votes in the Large Organisation category.
