Commemorative walk to end at Clontarf Castle

Dublin People 15 Nov 2019
The event will take place on November 23.

LOCAL people are being urged to support a major event being held this afternoon by a group that supports people bereaved by suicide.

Friends of Suicide Loss Ireland (FOSL) has organised a commemorative walk – ‘Mourning Has Broken’ – which will commence at 1.30pm from the Spire in O’Connell Street and travel to Clontarf Castle.

It will be followed by special events, entertainment and a sit-down meal for participants.

Former Leinster and Ireland rugby star Mike Ross will lead the walk to Clontarf Castle where he will be then interviewed by Dublin City FM radio.

An entertaining and special evening is anticipated for all who attend on the day, with a commemoration for the beloved departed followed by a candlelight dinner, music and live performances all evening up to 11.30pm.

FOSL will also hold a number of raffles and draws on the day with some great prizes to be won, suitable for all the family.

Friends of Suicide Loss Ireland (FOSL) is asking for your support as they host the International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day (or Survivor Day as it is known), that began in America in 1999.

The day traditionally falls on the Saturday before Thanksgiving in America as the holiday period can be a challenging time for the suicide bereaved.

It was designated by the United States Congress as a day on which those affected by suicide can join together for healing and supporting one another.

Every year hundreds of events take place throughout the world to mark this day of reflection and remembrance.

In 2018 there were 371 events held in 20 different countries around the world.

It is being hosted in Dublin for the second year.

FOSL introduced its commemorative walk and associated events last year in Ireland for the first time to mark this occasion with its own unique event for its members while integrating with others bereaved by any personal loss who are equally welcome to participate.

Tickets for the FOSL event package is €60, and these can be purchased on their website (www.fosl.ie) or directly from FOSL at 01-4927576 or on Eventbrite by clicking  the link
