Northside artist is ‘Brexhausted’

AN acclaimed Clontarf artist and musician will be in the national spotlight with his observation on Brexit at Art Source, Ireland’s largest art fair, at the RDS from November 15-17.

Frank O’Dea’s work is gaining international recognition, and his installation piece ‘Brexhausted’ echoes the public’s attitude of exasperation at Brexit.
Much of O’Dea’s painting is based on his observations as a musician in Dublin’s piano bars and restaurants, and he will bring this unique work to Art Source.
Frank’s work also features old broken mannequins which he gives new life by upcycling them with bright oil paints and turning them into installations.
The mannequins have featured at festivals around the country including the Galway Arts Festival and Dublin Fringe Festival.
Painting with oils, he has developed a distinct style, using bright colours and simplicity. His regular themes include musicians, fashion models, lovers, café and bar scenes and quirky subject matters of everyday life.
“Overseas buyers are now coming in for my work and some have my mannequins on show in their hallways,” said Frank.
The largest collection of Banksy’s work exhibited on public show in Ireland is also set to feature. Gormleys Fine Art will be showing 12 screen prints by the anonymous UK-based artist and political activist whose original piece Devolved Parliament recently sold for €10.9 million.
Over 15,000 people are expected to attend the show which will feature 200 of the best contemporary Irish and international artists and galleries. This year’s Art Source showcases painting, sculpture, photography, illustration, prints and ceramic art.
Admission to Art Source is €10 adults, €8 OAPs. Children under 16 go free if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
