Friends of Robert to run marathon in his memory

The late Robert Hickey

IN March, the Hickey family, from Baldoyle, heard the devastating news that their son Robert had tragically passed away while on holiday in Melbourne, Australia.

Immediately, and without any hesitation, The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust (KBRT) stepped in and repatriated Robert’s remains to his family.

With the assistance, help and support of the Trust, the Hickeys were able to bring Robert home to Ireland for the family to say their final goodbyes.

As a family they are forever grateful that this wonderful opportunity was given to them.

The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust (KBRT) was established in 2013 following the tragic death of Kevin Bell, aged 26, in New York.

The KBRT is an
amazing organisation that works selflessly to help families like the Hickey family to bring home loved ones who have passed away abroad, quite often in tragic circumstances.

Since it was established it has repatriated 768 loved ones to their families in Ireland from countries worldwide such as Australia, Argentina, South Korea, USA, Canada, Ecuador, Cambodia, India,
Uganda to name just a few.

The Trust repatriates approximately 10-15 loved ones back to Ireland per month.

This year, the Dublin City Marathon is celebrating its 40th anniversary on the very day the Hickey family  should be celebrating Robert's 40th birthday, October 27.

Robert’s wife Katie and 11 friends and family are running the marathon in memory of Robert and to raise funds for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.

Robert’s wife, daughter, family members and many friends deeply miss him.

According to his family, he always had a smile on his face and his
infectious laugh lit up the room.

He worked hard to support and provide for his family, always encouraging everyone to strive for better.

Robert  was a keen fitness enthusiast who loved encouraging people to take part and challenge themselves in this area. He also had a huge love of music.

The Hickey family said they can think of no more fitting tribute to honour him than to take part in the Dublin City Marathon’s 40th anniversary race.
