ALMOST 170 walkers, joggers and runners joined Olympian Mick Clohisey at the Father Collins parkrun in Donaghmede last Saturday week where Vhi hosted a special event to celebrate its partnership with parkrun Ireland.

Parkrun Ireland supports local communities in organising free, weekly, timed 5k runs every Saturday at 9.30am and events are open to all ages and abilities.

In addition to the normal parkrun on Saturday morning, Clohisey, a member of Raheny Shamrock Athletic Club, lead the warm-up for parkrun participants and offered support and encouragement to newcomers and seasoned parkrunners alike.

He said: “parkrun is a brilliant way to get some exercise, socialise and generally get your weekend off to a great start. I always enjoy the warm, friendly atmosphere at each parkrun I have ever visited.

“In Father Collins Park on Saturday morning you’ll see walkers and runners of all ages and abilities so don’t worry if you haven’t run or walked 5km previously.”

Declan Moran, Director of Marketing & Business Development, Vhi, said: “parkrun has been growing at an incredible rate and Vhi is delighted to be supporting its growth and development.

“The success of parkrun lies in the simplicity and accessibility of these local community-based events which are now taking place in over 100 parks nationwide.

“All ages and abilities are welcome, from those who volunteer, to those who want to run, jog or walk it right up to the Olympians who participate and support their local parkrun.

“At Vhi we are committed to helping our members live longer, stronger, healthier, lives and our partnership with parkrun is helping us to do just that.”

Afterwards, the parkrunners enjoyed Vhi’s hospitality in four separate recovery zones – Rehydrate, Relax, Refuel and Reward.
