Plans unveiled for new memorial park 

PLANS have been announced for a new memorial park to be built on the Northside.

Located between Portmarnock and Malahide, Lakeside Memorial Park will provide a unique setting for remembering and celebrating the lives of loved ones who have passed on. 

The park, which will contain a mix of traditional burial plots, ash interment plots, columbarium (a structure for placing cremated remains in urns or other approved containers) and memorial walls.  

The total cost of the project when completed will be in the order of €7 million to €8 million and subject to planning approval, the park is expected to open in 2022.

Speaking on behalf Palmaine Limited, which has submitted the planning application to Fingal County Council today, Niall O’Connor, Director said: “The Memorial Park will be an alternative to a traditional graveyard, introducing a new standard for memorials in Ireland. 

“Great care has been taken to develop the project in tune with the local planning, community and amenity needs.

“Spanning 24 acres, when fully completed, the park will contain a mix of extensive tree planting, woodland screening, water features to include a lake and river walk as well as lawn and meadow areas.” 

Mr O’Connor said the park will be landscaped to a very high standard providing a beautiful and peaceful setting helping visitors to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones. 

“The park will also contain ample parking and modern facilities including a coffee shop, florist and reception centre,” he said. 

The company behind the project maintains that it will protect the site’s Green Belt status between Portmarnock and Malahide.  

The park and facilities will be open to the public and will provide an additional amenity to the local community, a perfect place for walkers, joggers and cyclists. 

Mr O’Connor said: “In addition to providing a new local amenity, this development will have the added advantage of greatly reducing the existing local flood risk. 

“This will be achieved by the creation of a lake and by returning the river bank and bed to their natural state.

“We have worked with some of Ireland’s leading architects and environmental experts and we are very proud that the Memorial Park has been designed to meet the highest environmental and ecological standards.” 

Mr O’Connor added: “We look forward to working with Fingal County Council to progress our planning application.”
