Artane Band sings the praises of new uniform

THEY’VE played in Croke Park more times than any football or hurling team but from now on they’ll be playing in new outfit.

At the All-Ireland final between Dublin and Kerry, it was a case of out with the old and in with the new blue for Artane School of Music as the Artane Band proudly launched their updated uniform.
The uniform launch was the culmination of several years’ very hard work by the school’s volunteers, members and staff.
The newly designed uniform gives the band members an all-new modern look which boasts a high collar military design Tunic.
The tunic is complemented by the traditional Artane blue trousers with gold and red stripe which are now a more tailored fit.
The famous band cap with gold tassel also sees a slight upgrade with a subtle change from the previous design. The uniform was produced by Tailored Image who also provide uniforms to the Irish Defence Forces Military Bands.
The Artane School of Music said it is very grateful to all who fundraised and for a very generous donation which helped greatly to provide funds to complete the project.
Sarah McGuiness, who plays trumpet in the Artane Band, said it’s a new chapter in the organisation’s history.
“A new, more modern, better dressed era has arrived for the Artane Band, and the future looks just as bright as the polished gold buttons of our fresh, brand new uniforms,” she said.
Ronan O’Reilly, director of the Artane School of Music, said he is delighted with the result of the newly designed uniform.
“The previous uniform has dated back as far as 1969 and it was due an upgrade,” said Mr O‘Reilly.
“We have taken a strong influence from our 147-year history while bringing a modern twist to the uniform.
“The Artane Band members are also delighted with the design, which has become significantly more comfortable and practical for them to wear.
“It's important to thank all of the people who have invested time, money and effort into giving us the opportunity to bring this project to fruition. This is a project which the school is extremely proud of.”
Domnic Slater, chairman of the Artane School of Music, said: “A lot of hard work has gone into this project and the results are clear to see.
“The uniform of the Artane Band is synonymous with big days in Croke Park and the excellence which we strive to achieve for here in Artane.
“From the Hogan Stand or the Hill, the band might look the same but what many don't see is the hours the band members put in together with the support from the local community and volunteers. I am delighted that this is the uniform which the band will be marching in over the coming years.”
