CCTV to target Whitehall dumping

DUBLIN City Council has responded to a request from a local TD to install CCTV cameras to target illegal dumping at Whitehall Car Park.

Mountains of rubbish have been dumped in the car park beside bottle banks and a recycling point for clothing in recent weeks.

Dublin North West TD, Róisín Shortall called for urgent attention on the matter.

“I have previously requested the mobile camera to be used again here,” said Deputy Shortall.

“Using CCTV, the council must identify the perpetrators of this illegal activity and take steps to prosecute them as a necessary deterrent.

“However, if it is not possible to police this area and maintain it in an acceptable condition then it calls into question the viability of continuing to have recycling bins at this location.

“I am calling on Dublin City Council to take immediate action on this issue as local residents are losing patience with frequent dumping problems here.”

Following Deputy Shortall’s request, Dublin City Council has agreed to install CCTV in the area in the coming weeks.

“I am pleased that Dublin City Council will install much needed CCTV in this area”, Deputy Shortall said.

“I am hopeful this will discourage illegal dumping.”
