FINGAL County Council has introduced an innovative, new text service to raise awareness in the county of the importance of respecting accessible car parking spaces.

The council’s operations department launched the service at The Green, Malahide, supported by Mayor of Fingal Cllr Anthony Lavin, local councillors, Malahide Retail Forum and Malahide Chamber of Commerce in attendance.

Disabled parking bays are provided for members of the public who require them due to restrictive disabilities and should never be misused.

A valid disabled parking badge must be displayed clearly at all times when parking in a disabled bay.

The text service will be operated by Fingal Parking Services on behalf of Fingal County Council and allows citizens to report misuse of parking in disabled bays.

Each disabled bay will have signage containing a unique number such as BAY 1/BAY 2 to identify the location of each bay and a contact number.

Members of the public can text this number to report misuse of the parking space and this will be sent straight to the enforcement team.

Further rollout of this text service will be completed in Malahide in the coming weeks and countywide on a phased basis.
