A FUNDRAISING event that will take place at St Anne’s Park, Raheny, over Easter has been launched.

The Good Run will be held on Good Friday (April 19) to raise funds for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA).

The organisers are calling all runners, joggers, walkers and families to take part in the fifth annual event and get their Easter weekend off to a healthy start.

The charity fun run is offering a choice of two distances, 2.5km and 5km, for runners and walkers of all abilities.

It promises to be a great family morning out.

Proceeds will go towards supporting the fight against motor neurone disease (MND).

MND is a progressive neurological condition that attacks the motor neurones or nerves in the brain and spinal cord affecting how you walk, talk, eat and breathe.

Speaking at the launch of The Good Run 2019, event organiser Olivia Sexton said: “We’re excited to hold The Good Run for a fifth year.

“It’s a cause close to our hearts so we’re delighted to help raise valuable funds to support the fight against MND while also creating a fun morning that all the family can enjoy.”

Roisin Duffy, chief executive of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, said: “We’re thrilled to see The Good Run back for a fifth year.

“Fundraising makes up 83 percent of our income so events like this are vital to enable us to continue providing our crucial services to those living with MND.”

Proceeds will be divided equally and donated to the IMNDA and Project MinE, an international research programme dedicated to discovering the genetic cause of Motor Neurone Disease to enable treatment to be developed.

The Good Run has seen over 3,000 participants and raised over €68,000 since the inaugural event in 2015.

The event organisers are expecting big numbers this Easter weekend so register early to avoid disappointment!

Online registration is now open at www.thegoodrunireland.com and will close on Tuesday, April 16 at 5pm.

The entry donations are €15 for individuals and €30 for a family of four (two adults and two children).

Participants who register online will receive a goodie bag and a finishers’ certificate.
