Transport issues discussed at Raheny meeting

A LARGE crowd attended a meeting at Raheny GAA Club to hear concerns over transport issues affecting locals.  

The meeting, organised by Senator Catherine Noone (FG) and local election candidates Jeff Johnston (FG) and Maria Mulvany (FG), also heard from representatives of Iarnrod Eireann, Dublin Bus and the Cycling Dublin campaign.

Senator Noone, a Fine Gael candidate in Dublin Bay North for the general election, said: “It was great to hear the issues affecting people on the ground and that so many showed up to contribute to the meeting.

“These meetings play a pivotal role in developing sustainable public transport plans, local input, knowledge and experience is an invaluable resource for us as public representatives and public bodies providing transport.

Mr Johnston said: “We need to make our public transport disability friendly. Working with people in the community in tandem with the transport authorities, we can make this possible.

Ms Mulvany, said: “As a cyclist myself, I understand the problems faced by people riding bikes every day. We must make our city bicycle friendly, as other European cities have done. The benefits of cycling range from physical and mental health to environmental health.”

Senator Noone added: “As our community grows its crucial we get this right. Many people rely on public transport for a wide range of reasons from getting to work, getting to the shops to and getting to and from hospital appointments.”
