St Kevin’s gets set to celebrate

FORMER students and teachers of St Kevin’s College, Ballygall, are being invited to take part in celebrating the Northside school’s first 50 years of education. 

St Kevin’s opened its door for the first time on September 1, 1967, with an intake of 58 students under the stewardship of the Christian Brothers.

Over the past 50 years the numbers have grown and the school population is now over 500 students. 

Over the past five decades, thousands of Northsiders have passed through the St Kevin’s doors, each of them leaving with memories and experiences that would help shape the rest of their lives.

Past pupils including Denis Foley and John Kane believe many former students and teachers would love a chance to mark their time at St Kevin’s in a meaningful way.

Denis and John are part of a committee that is organising a celebration in the Church of the Mother of Divine Grace and afterwards in the school when former students and teachers can chat and catch up.

“We want to give all former students and teachers, and their families, an opportunity to revisit their years in St. Kevin’s and meet up with former contemporaries and colleagues,” said Denis.

“We are delighted to have this opportunity to acknowledge the various achievements in a variety of fields including sport, debating, drama and community involvement.

“We are looking forward to welcoming everybody on the night.”

The 50th anniversary celebrations begin with a church celebration at 7pm on Friday, April 5, in Mother of Divine Grace Church, Ballygall, led by past pupil Monsignor Eoin Thynne.

This will be followed by a celebration in the school library at 8pm where light refreshments will be served and guests can view old photos and memorabilia.
