Village centre awarded funding for upgrades

DARNDALE Belcamp Village Centre CLG have been awarded €52,600 in Government funding. 

Minister of Rural and Community Development Michael Ring approved €36,192 under the Community Enhancement Programme (CEP) to refurbish the public toilets in the Bell Building, while the remainder was received from the Dormant Accounts Fund for further work in the complex. 

DBVC CLG is the facilities management company responsible for managing and maintaining the centre.

The organisation identified the need for better access to some of the buildings within the complex and completed a funding application to the Dormant Accounts Funds to assist with the costs of the adaptions. 

The adaptions will consist of building more user friendly entrances to the two largest buildings in the complex: the Bell Building and Jigsaw Centre which, on a daily basis, are providing education, training and employment opportunities for over 300 people.

Nicko Murphy of the Darndale Belcamp Village Centre said: “DBVC CLG would like to sincerely thank the Department of Rural and Community Development and Pobal for deciding to grant us this funding.

“It is truly greatly appreciated and once the work is complete it will make an enormous difference to the very dedicated staff and the many thousands of service users who use the facilities.” 

Darnalde Belcamp Village Centre was just one of 3,000 projects nationwide that received funding under the CEP programme for disadvantaged communities.

•Baldoyle Boxing Club (€25,000)

•Baldoyle United FC (€15,000)

•Balscadden District Community Council (€5,760)

Minister for Communications, Climate Action & Environment Richard Bruton welcomed the funding for groups in his constituency of Dublin Bay North.  

“This investment will help more people take part in community activities by upgrading facilities and opening up opportunities, especially to groups who might struggle because of disability, recovery from addiction or resource limitations,” he said. 

Senator James Reilly (FG) welcomed the funding for groups in Fingal. 

“It was great to see the wide variety of local projects supported,” he said.

“This programme helps support important work by communities across Fingal by allocating funding worth €477,189 to 123 local projects.

“Examples locally includes Skerries Men’s Shed (€16,800), Skerries Gymnastic Club (€5,000), Balbriggan Men’s Shed (€16,800), Balbriggan FC (€60,000), Donabate Community Leisure Centre (€5,000) and many other community groups in Fingal.”
